Comprises transcripts of articles concerning the Randall family published in the Avoca free press. Includes articles, 28 Nov. 1914-9 Apr. 1919, containing reports about William Randall and excerpts from letters to his family, particularly to his father. They include descriptions of the incident in which he was wounded at Gallipoli (probably on 25 Apr. 1915 or soon after), reports of his capture in Sept. 1915 and subsequent treatment by the Turks, given in a letter by Pte H. Croft and in an account by Randall himself in 1925, his return to Australia and the reception he was given. Other articles, 22 Sept. 1915-8 Dec. 1917, concern Ernie Randall and include excerpts from his letters. They describe a training camp at Liverpool, NSW, wounding in Egypt, and experiences on return to Australia including application for a soldier settlement block and presentation of a medal by the people of Avoca. Also, a poem by Ernie, 10 Feb. 1917, concerning Egypt. Other articles and poems are by or about Edward Randall, 8 Aug. 1917-5 Jan. 1924.

Edward Randall was a pioneer resident of Avoca, Vic. His son William Randall (no. 532) enlisted on 29 Sept. 1914, served as a Private with the 14th Battalion, and was repatriated to Australia on 25 Dec. 1918. Born ca. 1882, he was a railway construction worker before he enlisted. He died in June 1966. Edward's youngest son, Matthew Ernest Randall (no. 1657) enlisted on 31 Aug. 1915, served as a Private with the 6th Light Horse Regiment, and was repatriated to Australia on 17 Aug. 1916. He was bo...
